Johan Albert Becker
Johan Albert Becker, son of Johannes
Becker, Jr. and Cornelia Uziele, was born in Huntersland, Schoharie County,
NY and was baptized on April 28, 1731 in the Schoharie Dutch Reformed Church and
died on April 14, 1816. His wife was Magdalena Becker, daughter of
Johan Storm Becker and Gertrude Klein. Magdalena was baptized on October
15, 1736 in the Schoharie Dutch Reformed Church and died on December 17, 1819.
Both Albert and Magdalena were buried in the Van
Schoonhoven Cemetery.
Johan Albert and Magdalena are listed as sponsors in the
Schoharie church several times, but often their names are spelled
differently. He seems to have gone by the name of Albert, Allebartus or
Albertus most of his life and her name is listed as simply "Laney" on
her gravestone, but as Lena or Lancha in the baptismal records. Albertus
Becker is listed in the 1790 Census as living in Schoharie. They purchased the family
farmlands in Halfmon, Waterford and Lansingburgh in 1792 from Jacobus van Schoonhoven (Saratoga County Deeds, Book
54, page 20).
He is an ancestor of Raymond Merton Becker, whose family
tree is also available on this site.
