Johannes Becker, Jr.

Johannes Becker, Jr., son of Johannes Becker and Anna van der Zee, was born in Rensselaerwyck and was baptized on August 4, 1691 in the Albany Dutch Reformed Church.  His first wife was Cornelia Uziele, daughter of Peter Uziele and Cornelia Janse Damen.  Cornelia was born in 1693 in Poughkeepsie, NY and probably died some time between 1760 and 1763.

Johannes and Cornelia came to Schoharie County in 1727 and settled in Huntersland.  It has been said that Cornelia died on September 17, 1748 and that Johannes then married Maritie Uziele on October 11, 1750, but there is no extant record of such a marriage.  Church baptism records indicate Cornelia and Johannes were sponsors for several children up to 1760, which suggests she lived at least that long.  However, a Johannes and Marejte Becker were sponsors in 1763 and 1765, suggesting that Johannes had remarried by then.  Slightly different spellings of the names are found in each of the mentioned records, but we can pretty safely assume that they all refer to the same individuals.

He is an ancestor of Raymond Merton Becker, whose family tree is also available on this site.
