A Brief Tour of Kraków
On the hill over the center of Kraków, stands the Royal Wawel Castle (Zamek Krolewski), home of the ancient Polish kings. We begin with the statue of Tadeusz Kosciuszko (1746-1817), who was a hero of both the American Revolution and the 1794 Polish uprising against Russian occupation. On Kraków's Grand Square (Rynek Glowny), you will find the great Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), home of a 700-year-old market, with statue of the great 19th century Polish romantic poet Adam Mickiewicz in the foreground:
The 14th-century Wawel Cathedral, home of the reliquary of St. Stanislaus (1058-1079), patron saint of Poland, martyred at the hands of King Boleslav II, who had his body hacked into pieces:
